And you who seek to know Me, know that the seeking and yearning will avail you not, unless you know the Mystery: for if that which you seek, you find not within yourself, you will never find it without. For behold, I have been with you from the beginning.” – Excerpt from The Charge of the Goddess, Doreen Valiente

Tony Oakworth

Plants and fungi are magic…though you could say, when viewed through magical eyes, everything is magic! By observing, interacting, witnessing and patiently studying nature, human beings can cultivate a deep sense of sacred reverence and connection to all things. Life can be truly magic…if one so chooses. The choice is made easier when awareness is sufficiently cultivated which is a direct result of seeking to understand and contextualize experience. Those who take up the mantle to know themselves, inevitably begin the process of healing.

Tony has been on a journey of healing and/or self-discovery for 20 plus years. In 2011, he began studying herbal medicine, earning a diploma in Phytotherapy from Pacific Rim College (PRC). After graduation, he worked in the supplement industry followed by working at PRC’s herbal dispensary. From there he began his teaching career, offering a medicinal mushroom materia medica, a nutrition course on food toxicity, therapeutics in the Community Herbalist program, teaching clinics and several weekend workshops in the Phytotherapy, Nutrition, and Permaculture programs.

His passion for people, plants and fungi and their interrelationships keeps him buzzing with questions to be answered and understood. He LOVES to engage in meaningful dialogue and enjoys sharing his knowledge with others. From plants and fungi to his personal healing journey, Tony energetically delivers engaging and accessible content.

Human beings are here to act as stewards of the planet and to tend the garden by cultivating themselves as much as their surroundings. In order to thrive and flourish, people must become compassionate gardeners of love and expanded awareness. The plants have partnered up with Tony to help make that happen.

Tony Oakworth is a registered herbal therapist, owner of Woodward Phytotherapy (herbal medicine clinic in Brentwood Bay, BC), and educator at Pacific Rim College in Victoria, BC working in the fields of plant medicines, nutrition, and mycology.

Sacred Recovery rituals are incredibly powerful, beautiful and resonant experiences that have been the catalyst for deep shifts, healing and ah hah moments for me. They’ve been a life raft in recovery culture that is narrated by the male voice. Would totally recommend and will be back.

2020 Rituals For Recovery
MAY 22 | JULY 24 | OCTOBER 30
7:00PM-9:30PM
Roundhouse Farm – 1506 Burnside Road West, Victoria BC

Within these Sacred Recovery rituals our primary purpose is to offer a Reclaiming inspired path to recovery from addiction, self-destructive behaviours, trauma, grief, loss, and oppression. Our group recognizes and respects that there are multiple perspectives and approaches to recovery. We are gathered in the spirit of curiosity for the divine, acknowledging that we are our own spiritual authorities. We have come to know from our own experience that through ancient wisdom, honouring the sacred elements of Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit, and practicing Earth-based spirituality, we can deepen our recovery.

We invite you to attend these rituals to investigate and practice the spiritual principles of Reclaiming to discover for yourself if it is valuable to your process of recovery. These rituals are recovery oriented and designed to be a spiritual resource for recovery. They are not a replacement for addiction treatment, psychiatric, or medical care. If you are unsure if this ritual is a fit for you, please contact us.

I love Sacred Recovery and Lucy and Lisa so much. I can’t say enough amazing things about this experience. The powerful healing of the rituals and the circle have been an amazing addition to my recovery.

Recovery Ritual Participant

I feel absolutely blessed and recharged. My heart is filled with an abundance of love, joy, peace, and passion.

Recovery Ritual Participant

Within each ritual we will utilize our spiritual technologies of grounding, creating sacred space, group participation, and closing the container, with a small grounding snack to follow. Tea and a bio break will also be provided.

We are sacred. Sacred Recovery recognizes the power and innate ability in each of us to heal ourselves and our communities. We welcome you to reclaim the lost identities of Wise one, One who is connected to the land, and One who seeks to understand and honour the powers of nature, and the connection between all things.

The Reclaiming Tradition. Each of us embodies the divine. Our ultimate spiritual authority is within, and we need no other person to interpret the sacred to us. We foster the questioning attitude, and honour intellectual, spiritual and creative freedom. We are an evolving, dynamic tradition. Our diverse practices and experiences of the divine weave a tapestry of many different threads. Our community rituals are participatory, celebrating the cycles of the seasons and our lives, and raising energy for personal, collective and earth healing. We welcome all genders, all gender histories, all races, all ages and sexual orientations and all those differences of life situation, background, and ability that increase our diversity. Read more about Reclaiming and the Principles of Unity here.

What does this have to do with recovery?

  • We are Edgewalkers. Wounded healers. Lover of all things sacred – including ourselves.
  • We may have had a (or several) dark nights of the soul. A part of us knows that to be where we are today is equal parts our own resilience, the divine nature within us, and the mystery of what is beyond us.
  • We have felt before, or may long for, the deep transformational magic that lies within the threads of community.
  • We feel the power that lies within our shadow and we are willing to journey into this darkness together, to find the treasures buried here.
  • We value investigation of both science and spirituality.
  • We hold the paradox of power and powerlessness. You might even see us smiling about it.
  • We seek to harm none – ourselves included.
  • We do not supress our emotions and characteristics, or those of another. Every part of us is welcome here.
  • We know that this path is not easy, but is is always worth it.
  • We are most magical when we are together.
  • We know that intention + expression + action + letting go = potent, transformational, magic.
  • Because what happens between the worlds, changes all the worlds.

…We are sacred stewards of all that is above, within, and below. The earth, the sky, the sun, the moon, ancestors of craft, land, and lineage, the fae, the mystery, and eachother. Why? Because they have been our allies on more than one occasion.

Write of Passage – A Recovering Words Workshop
NOVEMBER 3, 2019 – 10AM – 3PM
Roundhouse Farm – 1506 Burnside Road West, Victoria BC

A day retreat with Recovering Words Facilitator, Richard Osler & Sacred Recovery

“Tell me, what is your plan to do/ With your one wild and precious life?” – Mary Oliver

Words matter; words can change lives in recovery. How is this possible? It is possible because poetry picks the lock of the persona. Thoughts, feelings, images, often long buried, appear on the page as if written by someone else’s hand.

Using the extraordinary resource of contemporary poetry the Recovering Words workshops introduces recovering individuals to poems that speak to their lives, their circumstances. Using poems written by published poets, some with backgrounds with addictions, others not, the words of these poems strike home. Poets pay attention. They are experts of our world, of our human hearts. It is their voices that begin the conversation in the recovery centre meeting rooms. Time and distance shrinks. Workshop participants are inspired to write their words. Tell their own stories. And to stand up and share their creative words with each other.

GUEST FACILITATOR

Richard Osler – Poet

Writing poetry is one rockin’ way to bust open a life! Richard has found the truth of this in his own poems but also for the countless participants in his recovery-focussed poetry therapy sessions he has been leading in Western Canada for more than ten years. Nothing in his previous careers as a business journalist with the Financial Post, on-air business columnist with CBC’s nationally broadcast Morningside radio program and specialty money manager prepared him for the unexpected ways poems we write can know more than we do and become paths to healing. Richard, a somewhat recent resident of Vancouver Island, B.C., facilitates poetry writing retreats throughout Western Canada and the U.S. and, also more than 80, poetry therapy sessions within a residential addiction recovery treatment centre. His poems have been short-listed for prizes in the U.S. and Canada and his full-length poetry collection, Hyaena Season was published in 2016. His poetry blog posted continuously since 2010 is on his website: recoveringwords.com.

Sacred Recovery recognizes and respects that there are multiple perspectives and approaches to recovery. Intoxication or use of alcohol and drugs are not permitted. ‘Write of Passage’ is recovery oriented and designed to be a spiritual resource for recovery. It is not a replacement for addiction treatment, psychiatric, or medical care. If you are unsure if this ritual is a fit for you, please contact us.
